Overview:

lynn hall outside

A unification of nature and creative modernism seemingly materializes from a Pennsylvania mountainside overlooking the scenic Allegheny River Valley below.  This is Lynn Hall, an early example of Organic Modern architecture creatively designed and built by self-taught practitioner Walter Hall who later became the main builder for Frank Lloyd Wright’s infamous Falling Water.

First built from a dream of Walter and his wife Beda to become a country inn and roadside restaurant, historic Lynn Hall has undergone many incarnations including complete ruin and coming back from the dead full circle to its first envisionment of an inn, in the modern sense.

Overview:

A stay at Lynn Hall offers a most special, exclusive opportunity to step back into history while being surrounded by elegant modern architecture that’s purely indescribable.

The skillful use of horizontal lines, varied ceiling heights, water features coming from the outside in, cantilever cabinetry, radiant floor heating, fireplaces that recirculate heat, cisterns fed by natural springs that use gravity to supply water, and countless signature touches such as mahogany panels with red inlays create a perfect balance of nature and modernism that  bring a sense of peacefulness and repose.

Overview:

Set in Dark Sky Country, evenings can be spent outdoors under a perfectly dark starry night and daytime will be spent enjoying the spaces of Lynn Hall and exploring the local region’s natural wonders.

Don’t miss this rare chance to experience authentic modernism combined with unparalleled, warm hospitality that emanates from Walter’s remarkable talent and Beda’s Swedish warmheartedness in this phenomenal unique national treasure.

Accomodations:

Lynn Hall offers two authentically restored mid-century accommodations, each thoughtfully appointed with upscale furnishings that Walter Hall would have selected for his clients and the many properties he designed.

Each suite preserves Hall’s original vision while providing modern luxuries, allowing guests to experience the seamless blend of nature and architecture that makes Lynn Hall unique.

Usonian Apartment:

lynn hall usonial apt

Usonian Apartment – this 1940’s residence designed and built by Walter’s son Ray Viner Hall, showcases his signature elements including sandstone floors, mahogany built ins, Walter’s signature stonework and unique fireplace.

Notable features include local glass block and subtle rounded corners on the walls.  Cozy spaces throughout, including a reading nook, along with thoughtful touches like Japanese asthethics and attention to every detail.

A private outdoor terrace is perfect for relaxing or stargazing under the night sky.

2 bedrooms – Queen sized beds, 1 bathroom

Usonian Cottage:

Usonian Cottage – a prototype for what would become Walter’s son Ray Viner Hall’s version of a Usonain home.  Built upon the original rubble poured cistern that supplied the main building with water, the cottage rises outward and seemingly clings to the hillside with a ships prow window that cantilevers off the living room.

Walter’s signature stone work surrounds you as the interior ceilings compress and rise as you move from the intimate spaces to the common areas.  The kitchen retains the original and fully restored cabinetry, and the main living area contains a central fireplace along with dramatic views of the valley and mountains beyond.

Relax by a bubbling fountain on the rear courtyard or dine al fresco next to the outdoor fireplace.

2 bedrooms – Queen Sized beds, 1 bathroom
