Overview:
Welcome to a unique journey into the hidden charms of quintessential Connecticut! We’ll go beyond the traffic and noise of the large cities and huge highways to secret, serene spots that speak to your soul. Rolling landscapes with forested hillsides that harmonize with rocky peaks and pastoral farmland will be our guide as we seek hidden treasures only found within the nature of the Litchfield Hills.
Many garden love stories were created among this serene countryside, each with its own charm, character, and curiosities. Historic elements of quiet walkable villages remain as if untouched by time, and mansions of beauty and splendor are reminders of the golden age. Nature is at its best with peaceful rivers and wildflower meadows found along poetic bridges and winding trails.
So grab your sense of adventure and wonder and let’s be charmed by Connecticut’s magic spell!
Day One: Brush Hill Gardens
Once the hustle and bustle of highways and crowded areas are behind us, beautiful Brush Hill Gardens will greet us with a warm, colorful smile.
Created from the hearts of Charlie and Barbara Robinson, Brush Hill has evolved into a magical space filled with formal flower borders, fanciful follies, woodland walks, and a fabulous Waterworks.
Wander through this delightful creation’s ongoing story that embodies inspiration from both its frustrations and its joys.
An included lunch is next at a great local spot nearby.
Thoreau Bridge:
As we make our way farther into the Litchfield Hills, let’s take a wander into Hidden Valley Preserve where the Thoreau Bridge poetically spans the Shepaug River.
As you stroll, take a moment to reflect upon Thoreau’s meaningful wisdom etched into the bridge railings.
Hidden Valley Preserve Quartz Mine:
If you’re up for an adventure, we’ll wander a bit further along a lovely, wooded trail until we hear a crunch of quartz pebbles underfoot and a glittering glow noting the home of a historic Quartz Mine.
Milkhouse Chocolates:
Sit back and relax on a scenic drive to a delicious treat at the charming Thorncrest Farm & Milkhouse Chocolates.
The Manor House Inn:
Now we’ll make our last stop at the perfectly restored 1898 Tudor estate, Manor House Inn that will be our home for the next two nights.
Feel free to put down your phone and forget its existence as you relax into the peaceful surroundings and charming history.
Tonight we’ll take a historical stroll through downtown Norfolk on for an included dinner at the beautifully renovated 1883 Infinity Music Hall Bistro.
Then have a restful sleep!
Day 2: Campbell Falls
A secret cascade at Campbell State Park just right at the border of Massachusetts plunges 50 feet into the Whiting River where it zig zags through the gorge creating quite a captivating scene.
A short walk through a cooling evergreen forest will bring us to its beauty and will offer its waters as a perfect spot for toe dipping.
New Preston & Falls:
The small, sweet town of New Preston is next, but don’t blink, you may miss its charms.
Much cuteness is found here among the scenery, quaint shops, and few local spots to grab a bite for lunch.
Take a peek behind the shops to view New Preston Falls as it tranquilly tumbles its way down into the East Aspectuck River.
Hollister House Garden:
It’s time to transport to heavenly Hollister House Garden, beautifully situated on a sloping terraced site behind a rambling 18th century farmhouse in the rolling hills of Litchfield County.
This classic garden created in an English manner is a unique synthesis of formal and natural using right angles of paths with walls and hedges melting seamlessly into the lush surrounding landscape that form a magnificent backdrop for the exuberant plantings.
Take time to wander this amazing hidden gem filled with surprising color combinations that open onto stunning vistas and happy plants spilling onto walkways, tumbling over walls and climbing up arches.
White Memorial Conservation Center:
Let’s continue our connection with nature at the White Memorial Conservation Center where the Little Pond Boardwalk trail will allow exploration of the wetlands and the wildlife within them.
If you’d rather, browse the nature museum for a glimpse into the natural diversity of the sanctuary.
Tonight we’ll enjoy a delicious included dinner at a great historic local spot.
Day Three: Hogpen Hill Farm
Let’s start the day with a wild and whimsical personal sculpture garden filled with impressionistic artwork scattered throughout the Litchfield County landscape.
Take your time to wander through the creative spaces of Hogpen Hill Farm where modern and megalith wonders are dreamed up by artist Edward Tuft and find what speaks to you.
Southford Falls:
It’s time to fuel up with one last included local lunch before taking a peek at serene Southford Falls whose peacefulness will follow us on our journey back home.
Pricing & Departures:
Departs South Plainfield High School at the end of Lane Ave at 7:00 AM and returns at approximately 8:00 PM
Departs Madison’s Kings Road Parking Lot, 62 Kings Rd. at 7:45 AM and returns at approximately 7:15 PM
Departs Ridgewood’s Graydon Pool at the corner of Linwood Ave & Northern Parkway at 8:30 AM and returns at approximately 6:30 PM
Price per person is $ Twin & $ Single. No reservations accepted without a deposit of $250 per person. Make checks payable to Group Tours & Travel and mail to the included address. Final payment is due October 1, 2026. Deposits are fully refundable if cancellation occurs on or before October 1, 2026. There are no refunds if cancellation occurs after October 1, 2026. Travel protection/cancellation coverage is available and highly recommended (approximately 10% of the total cost of the tour) but not included. One piece of luggage per person and one carry-on are permitted. Group Tours is not responsible for any delays, cancellations, injuries or circumstances beyond its control and reserves the right to change this itinerary. All trip components are subject to change in accordance with Government, State and Local guidelines and/or mandates. This tour will run rain or shine.

- Our philosophy of travel involves getting out of the ordinary to experience other cultures and places with an open minded attitude and flexibility. Since as in daily life, anything can and will happen, let’s embrace these situations with acceptance and understanding because they will either lead to an unexpected, amazing experience or positive learning experience.
- If anyone brings along excess baggage such as incessant complaining, under the breath rude comments, outward negativity or other such behaviors that infect the entire group or individuals, we have the exclusive right to remove them from the tour at their own cost with no refunds. (yes, this means you)
- Toxicity of any kind will not be tolerated: selfishness – you are one part of a GROUP tour – controlling, demanding, manipulative and disruptive behaviors, rudeness, bullying, anything short of common decency is not welcome here and cause for immediate removal.
- If any major concerns arise during a tour, please just come talk to us and we’ll work it out!
