Wilderstein Historic Site:
The Hudson Valley is filled to the brim with charming towns, gorgeous gardens, and spectacular scenery that has long been a draw for many artists and of course, the wealthy who sought a remote getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city for a cooler and calmer summer escape.
Today we step into Victorian charm at Wilderstein, a Queen Anne style country house set upon a striking landscape with scenic views of the Hudson River and distant mountains. A guided tour will take us through the 1888 interiors designed by JB Tiffany that are still filled with personal and ancestral collections from the three generations of Suckley’s who lived among this wonderfully creative architecture.
As we wander, we’ll learn the history of each generation from Thomas & Catherine who founded and named the estate to Margaret, a distant cousin and confidant of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was the last remaining resident.
Wander the Grounds:
Take your time to stroll and admire the romantic landscaped grounds designed by Calvert Vaux with an intricate network of carriage drives, walks, and trails all with stunning scenery.
Lunch at Beekman Arms:
Now let’s enjoy an included lunch at the historic Beekman Arms, a special space that has been in continual operation since 1776, yet has retained much of its colonial character and charm.
Wander Rhinebeck:
After, explore the enchanting town of Rhinebeck filled with specialty shops and boutiques all clustered in the heart of the tree lined village
Pricing & Departures:
Departs South Plainfield High School at the end of Lane Ave at 7:15 AM and returns at approximately 7:00 PM
Departs Morris Plains Community Center, 51 Jim Fear Dr. at 8:00 AM and returns at approximately 6:15 PM
Departs Ridgewood Graydon Pool at the corner of Linwood Ave & Northern Parkway at 8:45 AM and returns approximately 5:30 PM
Cars may be parked at all locations at your own risk.
No reservations accepted without a payment of $195 per person. Make checks payable to “Group Tours & Travel” and mail to the above address. A full refund will be granted if canceled prior June 13, 2025. No refund will be granted on a cancellation that occurs after June 13, 2025. Group Tours is not responsible for any delays, cancellations, injuries or circumstances beyond its control and reserves the right to change this itinerary.
