The Greenbrier is regarded as one of the finest luxury resorts in the America. It’s a place that should be visited at least once in a lifetime. Prepare to be spoiled when we spend three nights of superior accommodations in this resort. In addition to the luxurious accommodations and culinary delights, we see many other interesting attractions along the way. In Pennsylvania we tour one of the most palatial Capitol Buildings in the country. Our drive thought the Shenandoah Valley is a place steeped in history. Nestled between two mountain ranges, it offers its visitors scenic views of farmland and the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. In the historic town of Lexington, Virginia, a jewel in the Shenandoah Valley, we tour the college where Robert E. Lee was president, visit the home of Stonewall Jackson and more. The Greenbriar Resort will be decorated for the Christmas Season that makes this an extra special time of year to visit.
Day 1. And we’re off! This morning we travel west to the capital city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After an included lunch, we tour an architectural treasure, the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building. It is one of the most beautiful state houses in the country; prepare to be astounded at its overwhelming beauty. From here we travel south of the Mason Dixon Line through the heart of the Shenandoah Valley to the Wingate by Wyndham, Lexington, Va. Dinner this evening is on our own in a popular area restaurant that is next door to our hotel.
Day 2. Our day begins with a visit to the historic town of Lexington, Virginia. This unique community offers its visitors an abundance of attractions. In the company of a local guide, we tour the Virginia Military Institute and the Washington and Lee University. We see the famous statue of Robert E. Lee, the painting of the heroic V.M.I. Cadet Charge, The Lee Chapel, and much more. After an included lunch, we visit the finely restored Stonewall Jackson House. From here it’s a short drive to The Greenbrier, our home for the next three evenings. Breakfast and dinner are included in the comfort of our resort during our stay. The Greenbrier is an award-winning resort located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Our next two days are occupied with absorbing the exceptional amenities our resort offers. This National Historic landmark, its classic architecture, exquisite interior design, carefully sculpted landscape, impeccable service and exceptional amenities have hosted distinguished guests from around the world since 1778. Each day we may choose from a variety of included activities, such as a cooking demonstration, afternoon tea, historic tours, use of the fitness center, wireless internet and more. A $20.00 casino credit per person is also included. Described as Monte Carlo meets Gone with the Wind, the Casino Club at The Greenbrier combines high-roller thrills and high-class style to create an unforgettable Greenbrier gaming experience. Enjoy live entertainment and boutique shopping in an elegant setting that revels in the warmth and charm of southern hospitality.
Day 3. In addition to the many hotel amenities, an optional tour is a visit to the nearby community of Lewisburg, Virginia. This historic town has a delightful collection of shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Lewisburg has been named one of a dozen distinctive destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recognized as a Top Southern Mountain Town in America and was voted America’s Coolest Small Town by Frommer’s Travel Magazine.
Day 4. This morning we are treated to an insightful tour of the Bunker. The declassified Bunker at The Greenbrier is a must-see experience that takes us behind the scenes as we walk through a fascinating period in the resort’s history. Carved deep into the mountainside is an emergency Cold War fallout shelter. Once a top-secret U.S. government relocation facility for Congress, bunker tours provide a unique and in-depth look behind the hidden doors and lets us explore an aspect of The Greenbrier that no other resort can claim. Perhaps you have seen this featured story on The History Channel.
Day 5. Our drive back to New Jersey once again takes us through the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Along the way our escort will relay stories of the many important things that have taken place here. Lunch is included in a popular area restaurant. Time passes quickly as we reflect on all the wonderful and fun things we have done and seen on this wonderful holiday tour.
The Greenbrier Hotel experience includes dressing for the Casino Club and dinner in the evening. A jacket and tie for the gentlemen and dress or pants and a blouse for ladies are required after 6:30 PM. Resort casual, including shorts is appropriate during the day. Sneakers and jeans are not appropriate after 6:30 PM.
The tour departs from Ridgewood’s Graydon Pool parking lot (corner of Linwood Ave. & Northern Parkway) at 8:00 AM and returns at approximately 7:00 PM
The tour also departs from The Chatham Middle School at 480 Main Street, Chatham at 8:45 AM and returns at approximately 6:15 PM. Cars can be parked at both locations for the duration of the tour at your own risk.
Price per person is $1,925.00 Twin & $2,325.00 Single. No reservations accepted without a deposit of $350.00 per person. Make checks payable to Group Tours & Travel, and mail to the address below. Final payment is due September 5, 2020. Deposits are fully refundable if cancelled on or before September 5, 2020. There are no refunds if cancellation occurs after September 5, 2020. Travel protection/cancellation coverage is available and recommended (cost is approximately 10% of the total cost of the tour), but not included. One piece of luggage per person and one small carry-on are permitted. Group Tours is not responsible for any delays, cancellations, injuries or circumstances beyond its control and reserves the right to change this itinerary.
