Humes Japanese Stroll Garden:
The Gold Coast of Long Island on the picturesque North Shore not only houses numerous grand mansions that are straight out of the pages of The Great Gatsby but is also home to a unique and historic gem, the Humes Japanese Stroll Garden.
This serene woodland garden landscape comprising an impressive collection of North American and Asian plants creates a beautiful Japanese landscape inspired by a mountain setting by the sea resulting in a strolling meditative experience.
Wander along the stunning stepping stone path resembling the intimacy of a mountain trail as you gently climb though the woodland part of the garden leading to a “mountain peak”. There you will meet a gravel path representing a stream that will guide you to an authentic pond side tea house.
Take your time as you stroll to observe and feel all the beauty of this very special place.
Oyster Bay:
Onto quaint Oyster Bay with time for lunch on your own and more exploration or just relaxation.
Planting Fields:
Now let’s visit one of those extravagant houses!
Coe Hall, a 65 room Tudor Revival mansion sits dramatically among the expansive 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, and woodland paths of the Planting Fields estate. During our tour of this magnificent mansion, we’ll travel back to the 1920s as we learn more about the wealthy Coe’s lives along with the artists and architects who designed is amazing space and surrounding landscape.
After, take some time to wander in the beautiful garden spaces or just find a great spot to sit and take it all in.
Pricing & Departures:
Departs South Plainfield High School at the end of Lane Ave the field side at 7:00 AM and returns at approximately 7:30 PM
Departs Morris Plains Community Center, 51 Jim Fear Dr. at 7:45 AM and returns at approximately 6:45 PM
Departs Ridgewood Graydon Pool at the corner of Linwood Ave & Northern Parkway at 8:30 AM and returns approximately 6:00 PM
Cars may be parked at all locations at your own risk.
No reservations accepted without a payment of $175 per person. Make checks payable to “Group Tours & Travel” and mail to the above address. A full refund will be granted if canceled prior April 19, 2023. No refund will be granted on a cancellation that occurs after April 19, 2023. Group Tours is not responsible for any delays, cancellations, injuries or circumstances beyond its control and reserves the right to change this itinerary.
